Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice Inc. recently partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs and National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization to offer a new program focused on recognizing the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families.
The Department of Veteran Affairs website reports that one out of four dying Americans is a veteran and a vast majority of them are not enrolled in the VA healthcare system or even aware of the support and services that are available.
This pioneering program focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment. By recognizing their unique needs, KHCH learned how to accompany and guide the local Veterans and their families through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending.
Bob Jarboe, spiritual counselor, organized and incorporated the first of a four level program into the services of KHCH. By doing this, the staff has gained information not only regarding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, but also other effects resulting from the various wars (ex: agent orange, nuclear bombing, radiation, insecticides and more).
World War II Veteran, Glenn Butler graduated from the Army Air Corps (Air Force) flight school in 1943. He served in the military until his retirement in 1972. He was stationed in Italy and France and flew several planes including the B-25, C-47 and C-54 during the war. After military retirement Glenn became a corporate pilot.
Bob Jarboe is available to educate others about this valuable veterans program. For more information, contact Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice at 574-372-3401 or by visiting koshomecare.org.
The Warsaw Meijer store donated the frames to hold the certificates of appreciation. These will be given to each patient who is a veteran.
